HOW MUCH FABRIC DO I NEED TO STITCH A DESIGN?

First, begin with the size of your design - in this example the design is 80 wide x 220 high.

Second, You want to stitch it on 32 count fabric.

To figure out how much fabric you need you take the design size and divide the design size by the stitch count.

Start with the fabric count which is 32 threads per inch and divide 32 by 2 = 16
(That means that 32 count Linen is the same as 16 count Aida, but you knew that right?)

Now take the width of the design ..... 80 and divide 80 by 16 = 5 (the stitched design will be 5 inches wide)

Do the same with the height of the design ..... 220 and divide 220 by 16 = 13.75
(the stitched design will be 13 3/4" high)

So the size of the stitching is 5" wide by 13.75" high.

To this add 6 inches - that's 3 inches on each side of the design on something that's big like a sampler (Note: you can get away with 2" on each side if it's something small like an ornament or fob).

Width of 5" + 6" = 11"
Height of 13.75 + 6" = 19.75"
So your fabric needs to be at least 11" wide by 19.75" high

This works for ANY count fabric.
28 count linen divided by 2 = 14 count Aida
40 count linen divided by 2 = 20 count Aida equivalent Etc.
