This involves picking up stitches along the edge of your piece, and knitting your buttonbands, with buttonholes. (In the video, we’re working with double yarn – but the same technique is used for single yarn.)

How do you knit a garter stitch button band?

Garter Stitch Band

Pick up and knit 2 stitches for every 3 rows along the side of the front of your front opening. Knit all rows until you have reached your desired band depth. Bind off all stitches using the decrease bind off. Sew on buttons on the opposite side from the buttonholes.
